Ubuntu close lid action: do nothing
If you want Ubuntu to just do nothing when you close your laptop lid on AC (i.e. because you want to use a external monitor), execute the following command:
gconftool-2 --type string --set /apps/gnome-power-manager/buttons/lid_ac "nothing"From the Ubuntu Forums.
